STFC: Borg Cutting Beam Refit

The Borg Cutting Beam Refit in STFC allows players to use the Borg Cube’s active ability twice before charging it again.

Update 62 of Star Trek Fleet Command (STFC) was released on Tuesday, 9 January 2024. This update introduced the first-ever Enterprise series arc, an extension to the Ex-Borg faction as well as a brand new hostile: the Xindi.

The patch notes also revealed that Scopely introduced new buffs, new officers, new refits and a new prime node.

The new refit that commanders can acquire is the Borg Cube Binary Cutter Refit, which doubles the maximum charge of the Borg Cutting Beam.

This essentially means that players can use the Borg Cutting Beam twice before charging it again. To acquire the Borg Cutting Beam Refit you have to obtain the Binary Cutter Refit Shard. Unfortunately, the only way to obtain this Refit Shard is through the in-game shop.

Players who are willing to spend real money in STFC can purchase the Binary Cutter Refit Shard for approximately $99.99.

Regrettably, this means that players who are not willing to spend real money in the game will not be able to get this Refit Shard and therefore, they will not be able to use the Binary Cutter Refit.

To purchase the Binary Cutter Refit, open your in-game store and select the corresponding item. Commanders have to click on the “Buy” or “Purchase” option and follow the given instructions to complete the purchase.

When you have completed the payment, you will instantly receive the Binary Cutter Refit. You can then complete the research in the Ship Skins tree to unlock the Binary Cutter for your Borg Cube.

Cube Enhancement – SMS

In celebration of the arrival of the Binary Cutter Refit for the Borg Cube vessel, Scopely is hosting an in-game event. To score in this event, you have to enhance your Cutting Beam by acquiring the Binary Cutter Refit.

Rewards After acquiring the refit you will earn the following rewards:

  • 5 B’Elanna Torres officer shards

Is the Binary Cutter Refit worth it?

Since players have to pay $99.99 to research the Binary Cutter Refit, several commanders have wondered if the Refit is worth it.

In a sense, this Refit can be seen as a convenience as you can use the Borg Cube’s Cutting Beam twice before you have to charge it again.

If you decide not to purchase the Binary Cutter Refit Shard, you will have to charge the beam before you can use it again. However, it will not hinder your ability to progress in STFC, as it has no influence on your gameplay.

Several players have mentioned on the official STFC Discord channel that they will not purchase the Refit Shard because they believe Scopely will release additional refits for the Borg Cube.

For instance, a player known as Terrax mentioned that there is no point spending money to get the Binary Cutter Refit as Scopely will release a Triple and a Quad Cutter in the near future, which means that the Binary Cutter Refit will become useless.

Keep in mind that this statement has not been confirmed by Scopely yet.

Can you progress in STFC without the Borg Cutting Beam Refit?

It is crucial to note that you will still be able to play and advance in STFC if you decide not to purchase the Borg Cutting Beam Refit.

However, it is a very convenient feature as you will not have to charge the Borg Cutting Beam every time you use it.

STFC Commanders can still complete missions, vanquish enemies from the galaxy and participate in events normally even if they do not purchase the Borg Cutting Beam Refit.

Do you need to have the Borg Cube to use the Binary Cutter Refit?
