The best tank for World of Warcraft: Dragonflight is Protection Warrior, but this could change once the expansion launches.
In this massively multiplayer role-playing game (MMORPG), World of Warcraft (WoW), players can explore the fictitious universe of Warcraft.
Similarly to other role-playing titles, you can create and control characters in this game to fight horrific enemies, join guilds, complete quests, and interact with other players across the globe.
WoW was released in 2004, and it has since had 8 major expansions that introduced new content to the game. Every expansion also changes the rankings of characters that take on specific roles. This means that a class may excel in a specific expansion, and still undergo changes in the next expansion.
The latest expansion, Dragonflight, follows the same principle, and many players have wondered what the best tank will be.
WoW: Dragonflight
Dragonflight is the ninth expansion of WoW, and it comes after the Shadowlands expansion. The expansion was announced early in 2022, and it is set for release on 28 November 2022.
This expansion is set on the Dragon Isles, which is divided into 5 separate zones. The primary zones include the Walking Shores, The Azure Span, Ohn’ahran Plains, and Thaldraszus.
Once it is released, you will be able to level up your character to level 70, which is currently the maximum level in WoW. Moreover, players can enjoy a user-interface revamp and new talent tree systems.
WoW Dragonflight: Best Tank
The new talent system changed things up before Dragonflight and it has revealed combinations of skills and talents that have never been seen before in WoW. This means that tanks, healers, and damage deals will be able to unlock new talents and skills.
All the roles in WoW have been divided into different tiers, where tier S is considered the best and tier C is regarded as below average.
Many WoW players have wondered which tank class will be best in Dragonflight. The tank tier list is strictly prediction-based as not enough data has been collected from the beta server to understand the true meta.
The tank tier list is based on an interpretation of the talents revamps, though it also considered the tank’s mitigation and survivability. Moreover, the tier lists are based on threat generation, mobility, area-of-effect capabilities for Mystic +, and single target capabilities for Raids.
The table below outlines the predicted tiers for tanks in Dragonflight:
S-tier | A-tier | B-tier | C-tier |

It is important to note that the table is purely based on prediction, and it can change when Dragonflight officially launches. It is thus advisable that you make no alterations to your characters until the new expansion is released.
If you do not have one of the best tanks in WoW, do not fret, as you will still be able to complete Dragonflight’s content and participate in raids.
Vengeance Demon Hunter
These characters have not changed much compared to in early Shadowlands releases. With the removal of legendary skills, the gameplay differs from that of the final patches of the previous expansion.
The changes now focus on rotation and on which skills you will be using, but the tankiness aspect of the class has not changed much.
If you play this class, you should definitely use the Frailty talent, but the way you use it will determine your success in Dragonflight.
Stacking up numerous talents to increase the effectiveness of Frailty makes the Vengeance Demon Hunter a powerhouse of self-healing while it remains the mobility king.
Unfortunately, the class lacks pure damage mitigation which is why they are predicted to be the second best tank in Dragonflight.
Protection Warrior
Protection Warriors have received several buffs with the new talent system that came with the Dragonflight pre-patch. Although their playstyle remains mostly the same, they have gained talents that increase the usefulness of skills and passive abilities.
The Shadowlands talent system forced players to choose between some particularly useful talents, but they can now specialise differently to hit some of them simultaneously.
The defensive prowess of the protection warrior is currently unmatched compared to the other tanks in the game. This class can also excel in the mobility department, due to its Heroic Leap, Shield Charge, and Fast Footwork.
Furthermore, its Spell Reflection offers some magical damage mitigation.
Why is the Brewmaster A-tier?
The major problem that keeps Brewmaster Monks from being in the S-tier is the lack of self-healing and the difficulty of mastering the spec for most WoW players. If you are a skilled Brewmaster already, it will be easy to attain the S-tier for you.
However, this class is not recommended for players who are new to tanking, as it is quite difficult to learn its mechanics.
