The Pokémon lured by the Incense will also have a pink aura around them. Keep in mind that the spawns are determined by either the ongoing event, or on the local biome you are in. Activated Incense usually lasts an hour and it spawns a Pokémon every 5 minutes if you remain at the same location. Although, it will spawn a Pokémon every minute or 200 meters when you are moving. Some players, otherwise known as trainers, are not affected by your Incense.
Where can you acquire Incense?
Unlike other items, the Incense cannot be obtained PokéStops. Instead, you can receive it as a reward for reaching a specific level. Your experience points are measured by levels, meaning that the higher certain experience points value you have, the higher the level you advance to.
As such, it is recommended that you gain as many experience points as possible, as you can then level up and get access to new items and more powerful Pokémon. Furthermore, players can purchase Incense from the in-game shop for approximately 80 gold, and you can purchase a bundle of Incenses for 500 gold. Players can also receive Incense as a reward for completing Special Research tasks.
What are the Special Research tasks?
There are numerous activities for you to participate in, some of which are the Special Research tasks. These are campaigns divided into sections that feature sets of unique tasks requested by Professor Willow. He helps new trainers learn the basics of the game, while assisting experienced players with research tasks.
Every player can only complete a Special Research task once in order to complete the whole set. Once the set of tasks have been completed, players will receive special rewards including Incense.
Can in-game events influence Incense?

These events can have a significant influence on your Incense, as they can change the colour of the aura. If you notice that your Incense are a different colour, it means that you can use them to attract a special type of Pokémon that does not appear under normal circumstances.
