Ni no Kuni Cross Worlds: Obsidian

One of the currencies you can find in Ni no Kuni: Cross Worlds is Obsidian, however, it can only be used in Kingdoms.

Ni no Kuni: Cross Worlds is a thrilling mobile game that combines role-playing and combat elements with exploration aspects. Since the game is part of the popular Ni no Kuni series, you can expect similar content, mechanics, and storylines throughout the mobile version and the series as a whole.

Unlike its predecessors, this game allows players to play the game with friends, as it features a multiplayer mode.

There are several activities and events for you to participate in, but it is advised that you first focus on the main campaign. Once you have progressed in the main storyline, you can summon Familiars, defeat monsters, join a Kingdom, discover Vistas, and participate in a player-versus-player (PvP) gaming mode.

What is a Kingdom?

The game’s story follows the beta tester of a fantasy virtual reality game called Soul Diver, which transports the characters to the world of Ni no Kuni. Within the game, you discover Kingdoms, which are vast lands that act as the major governing body in Soul Diver.

Kingdoms essentially provide platforms for players to bond and enjoy the game together. This includes participating in varying gaming modes exclusive to Kingdoms and exploring the lands of Soul Divers. Kingdoms are similar to guilds or clans in other role-playing titles. This means that you can either create or join an existing Kingdom that can aid you in your progression.

Ni no Kuni Cross Worlds: Obsidian

As you explore the game, you will come across many sources and currencies, one of which is Obsidian. Obsidian is a glassy mineral as dark as the night sky that can only be used in Kingdoms. This means that even if you can collect Obsidian, you cannot use it if you are not part of a Kingdom.

It is important to note that Obsidian has no use other than to be donated to your Kingdom. Once you have donated your Obsidian, you get a Kingdom exclusive currency, which can be used to purchase items in the Kingdom Shop. Players can allegedly purchase experience points, jellies, and a variety of buffs that can last up to 1 hour from the Kingdom Shop.

Some of the buffs available in the shop are as follows:

  • Increased critical hit damage
  • Increased health points
  • Increased defence
  • Increased attack
  • Increased critical hit rate

The Kingdom’s leader then uses the donated Obsidians to improve and upgrade the Kingdom. This means that essentially, you are aiding the improvement of your Kingdom when you donate your Obsidians.

Alternatively, you can use your Obsidian to participate in the Kingdom Defence gaming mode, but it is quite expensive. Fortunately, the first run in this mode is free, so players can still enjoy the Kingdom Defence without using their Obsidians.

How to acquire Obsidian

There are numerous methods you can use to procure Obsidian, however, some are more time-consuming than others. The easiest, but probably the most expensive way, is to purchase Obsidian from the Travelling Merchant.

However, you can also earn Obsidian by participating in the Citadel Weekly Achievement activity. The most common method used to farm Obsidian is by going to the Familiar Adventure, which is a minigame.

The Familiar Adventure allows you to send your Familiars out to battle other Familiars and to occupy gathering sites. It is worth noting that you should send your strongest Familiars out, otherwise you may be defeated in battle. It is worth noting that players can only access the Familiar Adventure once they have reached level 33 in the game.

Can you lose Obsidian?

Once players have donated Obsidian to their Kingdom, they cannot take it back. Moreover, if you donate Obsidian to a Kingdom, but then decide to join a new guild, the Obsidian you donated is not transferred to the new Kingdom.

However, the Obsidian in your inventory that you have not donated can be used in the new Kingdom. Thus, players should carefully decide whether they want to donate their Obsidian or move to a new Kingdom as they might lose their Obsidian.

How to join a Kingdom

As previously mentioned, you need to be part of a Kingdom before you can donate your Obsidian. In order to join or create a Kingdom, you have to complete the Reputation quest, Evermore: Survivors of the Nameless Kingdom.

You can then go to the Community tab, which is situated on the right-hand side of the menu. Here, you will find a Kingdom icon, where you can apply to be part of a guild. Alternatively, you can click on the “Create Kingdom” option to create your own guild, but this costs Diamonds, which is a premium in-game currency.
