Afflicted Dire Scale is one of the Afflicted Materials players can use in Monster Hunter Rise to upgrade their weapons and unlock new decorations.
In this action role-playing game, Monster Hunter Rise, gamers are invited to assume the role of a Hunter to capture and slay large monsters. The game is the sixth mainline instalment in the Monster Hunter franchise, and as such, you may experience similar mechanics and gameplay in the series.
As the hunter, you have access to various tools, weapons, and environmental features that can damage and weaken your enemies. An expansion of Monster Hunter Rise was released shortly after its initial release. Sunbreak introduced new aspects and features for players to enjoy, one of which is an Afflicted Dire Scale.
Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak
Though Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak is called an expansion, it is more like a completely new game because it introduces several new monsters to defeat and capture, new locales to discover, and multiple weapons to craft.
In addition, players can also complete the Master Rank Quests in the expansion. Allegedly, these objectives will push seasoned hunters to their limits. Before you can experience the expansion, you have to defeat the Goddess of Thunder, which is the closest thing the game has to a final boss.
Monster Hunter Rise: Afflicted Dire Scale
Afflicted Dire Scale is 1 of the 8 available Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak Afflicted Materials needed to unlock new armour and decorations in the end-game phase. Players can use their Afflicted Dire Scale, or any Afflicted Material, to craft and upgrade exceptional and rare weapons and gear.
There are numerous methods you can use to acquire an Afflicted Dire Scale, like completing Anomaly Investigations, or by defeating these monsters:

| Rathian | This flying wyvern has 2 elements: poison and fire. It can inflict poison and firelight, and has a threat level of 4. Players can find the monster in Sandy Plains, Shrine Ruins, The Jungle, and Flooded Forest |
| Anjanath | The monster of Brute Wyvern has a threat level of 6. Since it deals fire damage, it is vulnerable to ice and water, but it is resistant to dragon and fire. You can find it in The Citadel, Shrine Ruins, The Jungle, Lava Caverns, and Sandy Plains |
| Tobi-Kadachi | Players can find this large Fanged Wyvern in The Jungle, Flooded Forest and Shrine Ruins. Although it is a Thunder element, it is vulnerable to Water, Ice, and Fire |
| Pukei-Pukei | Even though it is a large Bird Wyvern, it has no element. You can find it in Sandy Plains, Shrine Ruins and Flooded Forest. The monster is resistant to Dragon and immune to Water |
You have to break the parts to potentially get more Afflicted Scales. This is because there is a 20 percent chance that you will receive additional Afflicted Materials by carving and breaking parts. Once you have the Afflicted Scale, you can use it to upgrade weapons like Royal Order’s Bowgun, Fierce Moss Green, and the Twin Wyvern Bolts.
Decorations
Players should remember that not only can they use Afflicted Scales to upgrade weapons, but they can use it to unlock the following decorations:

| Bubbly Dance | It reduces bubbleblight and grants increased evasion when afflicted |

| Mind’s Eye Jewel + 4 | Players’ attacks are deflected less and deal more damage to hard targets |
Decorations only become available when you reach Hunter Rank 4 (HR4). You can do this by reaching 6 stars on the Village Quest and progressing the village Hub Quests.
Anomaly Quests and Anomaly Investigations
As previously mentioned, players can earn Afflicted Materials by completing the Anomaly Quests and Anomaly Investigations. It is noteworthy that you can only receive the Afflicted Scale once you unlock 3-star Anomaly Quests.
You can unlock the quests by completing the Master Rank 30 Urgent Quest. To quickly increase your Master Rank, you can complete specific special location quests with a rainbow Spiribird available at the beginning.
This is because you do not have to waste time running around the map, repeating the same quest should make you better at completing it faster. Additionally, you can farm new armour sets and complete optional quests.
Augmenting weapons and armour
Players can add random skills to their gear and weapons using materials earned from hunting Afflicted monsters in the Qurious Crafting system. This feature can only be unlocked by speaking to Bahari about Anomaly Investigations, and then unlocking Afflicted monsters at Master Rank 10.
Once you have reached Master Rank 10, you can talk to Minayle, who is located at the Smithy, to unlock Qurious Crafting. To add skills, you first have to enable Augmentation, which you can do by spending Afflicted Materials, Zenny, and Amber Essence.
