Genshin Impact players cannot change their weapon appearance through the transmog process, but the weapon’s appearance will change at the second ascension.
In this thrilling action video game, Genshin Impact, players can explore the world of Teyvat, which is home to 7 nations. Each nation is tied to a specific element and is ruled by a different god.
The story follows the Traveller, who has travelled across various worlds with their twin siblings. However, they separated in Teyvat. You are the Traveller, and it is your responsibility to find your sibling but luckily, you have the help of your companion, Paimon.
You have to create and customise a character before beginning your adventure. After the character creation phase, you can follow the main story arc to advance in Genshin Impact.
As your character reaches higher levels, you can equip them with gear and weapons. Many Genshin Impact players want to change their gear and weapons through transmog.
What is transmog?
Transmogrification, otherwise called transmog, is a mechanism in video games that allows players to change the appearance of a weapon or armour piece.
Players usually want to change the appearance of one of their items to match the appearance of another weapon or armour piece. Transmogrification thus allows you to customise your character in a video game even more.
Bear in mind that when you transmog an item, the performance of the gear piece or weapon does not change. The weapon or gear piece will thus function as normal, even if its appearance is altered.
Genshin Impact: Weapon Transmog
It is noteworthy that Genshin Impact does not have a transmog system in place. This means that players cannot change the appearance of their weapons.
Although you cannot customise your weapon, the game will alter the appearance of your weapon through ascension.
Similarly to the characters in Genshin Impact, weapons can be ascended to their next phase when they reach their current maximum level up to 6 times.
Weapon Ascension requires specific materials, which can be categorised by their visual theme, the day of the week, and the region they are found in. Higher-rarity ascension materials can also be crafted with Alchemy, by combining lower-rarity materials from the same group.
A weapon’s appearance changes permanently upon reaching the second ascension. There are different phases of ascension, each of which has a maximum weapon level and requires a specific adventure rank.

Can artifacts be transmogrified?
Similarly to weapons, your gear and artifacts cannot go through the transmogrification process. Thus, you cannot change the appearance of your character’s gear.
However, numerous characters in Genshin have skins available. Skins are essentially outfits that your character can equip to change their appearance. The table below lists some of the outfits available:

Alchemy
In Genshin Impact, Alchemy allows players to craft higher rarity character and weapon ascension materials, character talent materials, potions, and various gadgets.
In order to perform alchemy, you have to go to a crafting bench. If you are interested in crafting higher rarity materials, you have to acquire 3 lower tier materials. These materials are combined in a reaction, and you will receive 1 higher tier material.
Players should note that you have to increase your adventure rank to unlock the ability to create certain materials.
Adventure Rank
Adventure Rank (AR) is a player account progression system in Genshin Impact which is raised through Adventure Experience Points.
When you reach certain Adventure Ranks, you can ascend your world to the next World Level. When a world level increases, the difficulty and rewards of monsters, bosses, and level in outcrops is increased.
