In FFXIV, there are 4 different tank jobs that you can choose from, however the most enjoyable and fun job depends on your personal preference.
Final Fantasy XIV (FFXIV) is a well-renowned video game that combines role-playing with exploration and battle elements. It is part of the classic Final Fantasy series, and hence, you are likely to experience similar aspects and gameplay throughout the games in the franchise.
FFXIV is set in the fictional realm of Eorzea, in which you can interact with other players and with the environment.
Before you can explore the vast open world, you have to create and customise a character. You can select your character’s gender, name, age, race, hairstyle, and facial expressions, among others.
The most important decision during the character creation phase is which class or job you want your character to be or have. One of the jobs your character can take on is a tank, but some classes are more enjoyable than others.
Jobs
Jobs are an extension of the character’s base class, and it requires a Soul Crystal to activate. Each job has several subcategories, namely:
Job | Subcategory |
Magical ranged damage dealer |
|
Physical Ranged damage dealer |
|
Melee damage dealer |
|
Healer |
|
Tank |
|
Each subcategory has a specific base class, which you have to level to level 30. For example, to become a Ninja, you have to level the Rogue class to level 30. However, to become a White Mage, you have to be a Conjurer first.
FFXIV: Most fun tank
There are 4 tanks that you can become in FFXIV, each of which has unique abilities and group benefits. It is important to note that some tank classes are considered more fun than others.
However, this is purely based on your opinion and preferences. One player may argue that the Paladin is the most enjoyable tank, while another might claim that the Gunbreaker is the most fun tank. Before choosing a tank job, you should consider your likes, dislikes, and personal preferences.
When creating a new character, you will only have access to the Warrior and the Paladin jobs. The Warrior is perfect for players who want to fight with a giant axe. This job excels at self-sustain healing while ripping through groups of enemies in a berserker rage.
The Paladin job is made for players who want to play with the iconic shield and sword build. The job is a master of group utility, as it has strong on-demand defensive cooldowns and self-healing.
At a much later stage in FFXIV, you can unlock the Dark Knight and Gunbreaker tank jobs. The Dark Knight job is for players that want to command a giant sword while benefiting from dark magic.
This job stands out, as it deals great damage-per-second to enemies and it can shield itself from massive amounts of damage.
The Gunbreaker, on the other hand, is the newest tanking job in the game. It is perfect for players who want to feel like they are playing a DPS job while using a sword that also functions as a gun.
This job has quite an active rotation as they can shield themselves when they strike, while gaining instant healing when their health drops.

What is the best tank job for beginners?
From all the tank jobs, the Paladin is considered the best job for beginners as it has simple mechanics, and it is easy to learn. As mentioned before, Paladins are the masters of group utility, as they can provide health point recovery to party members.
Moreover, they can rotate between a physical damage phase and a holy damage phase, ending with a combination of swords. Paladins allegedly have the best defensive cooldown in Hallowed Ground, as it will leave you impervious to most attacks for 10 seconds.
Players who want to become a Paladin have to start their journey as a Gladiator.
What is the best tank job in FFXIV
The Gunbreaker is regarded as the best, as it is the most aggressive tank in FFXIV. It wields a gunblade and fills a Powder Gauge to unlock powerful damage-dealing combinations that mix off-cooldown and on-cooldown abilities.
This job is not recommended for beginners as its damage rotation can be more challenging to understand than the other tank jobs.
