Once you have collected all 6 Horse mounts in FFXIV, you can acquire the unique Kirin mount.
Gamers are invited to explore the fictional world of Eorzea in this well-renowned video game, Final Fantasy XIV (FFXIV).
As it is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG), you can enjoy its content with like-minded players. In addition, there is an array of activities you can partake in as a solo player.
Bear in mind that Eorzea is a vast continent that has various locations and areas. It may take a while to travel to these areas, especially if your character is walking or running to each zone.
Fortunately, the game has different mounts for you to unlock and collect. One type of mount you can procure is the Horse mounts.
When can players get their first mount?
Players can obtain their first mount, which is a Chocobo, when their character has reached level 20. Bear in mind that you first have to join 1 of the game’s 3 Grand Companies, namely, The Immortal Flames, The Maelstrom, or The Order of the Twin Adder.
After joining an order, you have to complete the The Company You Keep and My Little Chocobo quests. Players will be rewarded with the Chocobo Whistle for completing the quests, and they can use it to summon their mount.
Once your character has reached level 30, you will receive another quest called My Feisty Little Chocobo, and completing this quest will upgrade your mount. It will then be able to fight in battles, level up, and learn new skills.
FFXIV: Horse mounts
You can collect various types of mounts as you advance in FFXIV. Out of all the mounts in the game, the Horse mounts, otherwise known as Nightmare ounts, are some of the most desired ones you will come across. However, to get them, you have to grind trials and convince luck to be on your side.
There are currently 6 Nightmare mounts that players can collect from doing the game’s extreme trials. Gamers should bear in mind that the mounts are randomly distributed after defeating a boss. You thus need to have luck with the random-number-generator (RNG) system to loot a mount.
This can be quite frustrating, as many players claim they completed a trial several times, but they did not earn a mount. It is recommended that you complete A Realm Reborn in order to unlock all extreme trials before attempting to collect a mount.
Moreover, your character has to at least be on level 50, as the enemies in the extreme trials are quite powerful. Once you have accomplished this and unlocked the trials, you can start farming the horse mounts.
The table below lists the 6 Nightmare mounts and the trials you have to complete to acquire them:
Mount | Trial |
Gullfaxi | The Naval |
Boreas | Akh Afah Amphitheatre |
Enbarr | Lord of the Whorl |
Xanthos | The Howling Eye |
Aithon | The Bowl of Embers |
Markab | The Striking Tree |
The Kirin mount
Once you have all 6 Nightmare mounts, you can collect the Kirin ount. To do so, players can head to Mor Dhona and interact with Wandering Minstrel to get the A Legend for a Legend quest. To complete the quest, you have to go to a special location where you will acquire the Kirin mount.
Trials
Trials are a unique activity that allow players to fight together to defeat extremely powerful enemies. Each trial consists of a single boss fight, but a few are split up into several parts. Once the boss is defeated, players are rewarded with tokens, rare items, or story progression.
There are currently 2 trials, namely, story-mode trials and high-end trials. Players are expected to clear all the story-mode trials, and the high-end section is significantly more difficult.
FFXIV currently features 8 extreme trials that players can complete, however, only 6 of them can drop a Nightmare mount. Hence, it is recommended that you carefully consult the previously mentioned table to see which trials you have to complete.
Farming Nightmare mounts
Allegedly, the easiest way to farm the Nightmare mounts is to do the trials while unsynced. This will help cut down the competition for the mounts, as everyone will be trying to get them when doing the trial with a full team.
It is recommended that you and a high-level friend take on each extreme boss and farm them until the mounts drop. You will need a healer and a damage dealer in your party to make things smoother.
