Farming Dog mounts in FFXIV can be very frustrating, luckily, you can purchase the mount with totems.
Final Fantasy XIV (FFXIV) is a popular massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) that is set in the fictional world of Eorzea. The game invites players to explore the realm, in which they can interact with the environment and with other players.
There is an array of areas and locations you can discover while advancing in the game. You should remember that travelling around these zones can take some time, especially if you are running or walking.
Fortunately, you can get mounts to make travelling faster. There are various types of mounts you can collect, one of which is Dog mounts.
Mounts
Mounts allow players to travel around Eorzea faster. After collecting a mount, it can be summoned by dragging the icon on the action bar and clicking on the icon. It is noteworthy that you can only acquire your first mount when your character has reached level 20.
You also have to complete several quests to unlock your first mount, which is a Chocobo. Once you have Chocobo, you can farm additional mounts. However, some mounts can only be procured by defeating powerful bosses in the extreme trials, which requires a level 60 character.
FFXIV: Dog mounts
In FFXIV, players can collect numerous rare mounts, including Stormblood Dog mounts, otherwise referred to as the Kamuy mounts collection. This mount can only be procured by clearing bosses in some of the game’s extreme trials.
You have a chance to get a Kamuy mount after completing trials, but you are guaranteed to receive a tradable token per trial. The table below lists where each Kumay mount can be acquired and the Totem Trade requirements:
Mount | Trial | Totem Trade requirements |
Halloweed Kamuy | The Wreath of Snakes | 99 Seiryu Totems |
Euphonious Kamuy | Hell’s Kier | 99 Suzaku Totems |
Lunar Kamuy | The Minstrel’s Ballad: Tsukuyomi’s Pain | 99 Lunar Totems |
Auspicious Kamuy | The Jade Stoa | 99 Byakko Totems |
Legendary Kamuy | The Minstrel’s Ballad: Shinryu’s Domain | 99 Shinryu Totems |
Reveling Kamuy | The Pool of Tribute | 99 Revel Totems |
Blissful Kamuy | Emanation | 99 Bliss Totems |
These quests are unlocked from the Songs in the Key of Kugane quest, which you can receive by interacting with the Wandering Minstrel in Kugane.
The quest will only be available after you have cleared the main scenario quest, Stormblood and after each time you clear the normal version of each trial.
Farming the mounts
It is crucial that your character must be at least level 70 to participate in these trials, but due to the undersized party system, you can enter the trial at your highest level, with your best gear equipped.
Completing a trial this way will allegedly make the fight much easier, as your increased damage and defence will allow you to skip difficult phases of a fight, which will result in faster clear times.
This will make farming the mount drops much quicker, especially if you set up a dedicated farming group with other players.
Although it is not currently possible to defeat the boss as a solo player, a party of 4 or 5 players should have no problem defeating an extreme trial unsynced.
Kamuy of the Nine Tails
Once you have acquired all the Kamuy mounts, you can speak to the News Hawker in Kugane to get the quest, A Lone Wolf No More.
To complete the quest, you have to go to a specific location, where you will collect the mount, Kamuy of the Nine Tails. It is important to note that you cannot complete the quest until you have completed the entire Stormblood questline of patch 4.0.
What are totems?
Farming extremely rare mounts can be very frustrating, but luckily, the developers of FFXIV have introduced the totem system to make mount farming slightly better.
The extreme mounts for the Stormblood, Heavensward, and Shadowbringers expansion packs can be purchased with totems. Totems are an in-game currency and it is unique to each trial.
As previously mentioned, even if you fail at collecting the mount, you are guaranteed to receive a totem. Players generally only receive one totem per clear.
99 totems can be exchanged for the trial’s mount in Rhalgr’s Reach, Eulmore, or Idyllshire. Totems are considered a cushion for players that are dedicated to mount farming, because if a whistle has not been obtained after 99 clears, then the mount can be purchased.
