One of the Sorcerer’s skills in The Elder Scrolls Online (ESO) is Surge, but it will no longer be greatly affected by the Battle Spirit buff.
Players are invited to immerse themselves in the fantasy world of Tamriel in this massively multiplayer, online, role-playing video game, The Elder Scrolls Online (ESO). Since the game is non-linear, gamers are free to choose what they want to do in the game.
You can complete quests, participate in occasional events, and explore an array of zones in the game. Before you can enjoy the activities the game has to offer, you have to create and customise a character.
You can also complete a tutorial mission to understand the game’s mechanics. The game currently has 6 classes, one of which is the Sorcerer. The Sorcerer has a unique skill called Surge, which is no longer being influenced by the Battle Spirit.
What are the different classes?
The game gives players the opportunity to select a class while they are in the character creation menu. There are 6 classes to choose from, and each one has unique skills and abilities. The following table highlights the classes and describes each one:
Class | Description |
Necromancer | They are masters of death with the ability to call upon corpses to serve as undead thralls. Necromancers can also weave ghastly spells to heal their allies and harm their enemies. |
Warden | Wardens are defenders of the Green and master storytellers, whose nature tales become a magical reality. |
Dragonknight | Skillful masters-at-arms, Dragonknights use the ancient Akaviri martial arts tradition of battle spirit. |
Sorcerer | They use destruction spells to hurl lightning bolts while wielding dark magic to snare and stun their enemies. |
Nightblade | Nightblades rely on stealth blades and speed as they thrive on misfortune and conflict. |
Templar | They use the powers of the light and the burning sun to deal massive amounts of damage to their enemies. |
ESO: Surge Battle Spirit
Sorcerers have unlimited power at their fingertips to call powerful lightning strikes from above. They can also support their allies, suppress their enemies, and overwhelm their foes with Daedric monsters.
Similarly to other classes, the Sorcerers have 3 unique skill lines, namely, Daedric Summoning, Dark Magic, and Storm Calling. In the Storm Calling line, you can discover the Surge active skill, which increases weapon damage by 3 for 17 seconds.
This skill has 2 morphs, namely Critical Surge, which has a one-second cooldown on the heal, and Power Surge, which applies the Major Brutality and Major Sorcery buffs on your character.
You can use your Sorcerer in player-versus-player (PvP) and player-versus-environment (PvE) gaming modes. Once you have entered Cyrodiil, which is one of the main PvP locations, your character will benefit from the Battle Spirit buff.
It increases your health points by 5000 points, but it cuts attack, healing, and shields by half. This buff has caused several controversies, as the reductions influence certain skills and abilities too much.
Fortunately, one of the game’s updates revealed that several abilities that have damage, damage shield or healing components that scale off each other will no longer be hit multiple times by Battle Spirit’s reductions.
This includes the following abilities:
- Sorcerer: Surge
- Nightblade: Strife and Soul Tether
- Templar: Puncturing Sweep, Radiant Glory, and Blazing Shield
- Mages Guild: Degeneration
- Restoration Staff: Healing Ward
Cyrodiil
At the center of Tamriel’s map, players will find Cyrodiil, where the Aldmeri Dominion, the Daggerfall Covenant, and the Ebonheart Pact fight to crown their Emperor.
Cyrodiil is an open player-versus-player zone, which means that when you leave your stronghold, you are no longer protected from being killed by another faction member.
When your character reaches level 10, you will get a message in the mail that invites you to Cyrodiil. To gain access to the PvP zone, you have to follow these steps:
- Press “L” to open the Alliance War menu
- Select the Campaign tab in the top right corner. It is recommended that you start with a non-champion points Campaign
- After selecting a Campaign, you will enter the zone and fight other players
Should you use Surge for PvP?
As mentioned before, one of the skills a Sorcerer can use is Surge, which can morph into either Critical Surge or Power Surge. It is recommended that you use Critical Surge for PvP as you will gain a lot of health when you deal critical damage.
This skill also increases your spell damage through the Major Sorcery buff, though it must be activated all the time for players to benefit from its effects.
Can you get rid of Battle Spirit?
It is crucial to note that it is impossible to get rid of the Battle Spirit buff, since it automatically applies to your character once you enter Cyrodiil. This buff supposedly gives all players in the PvP zone an equal chance to fight other gamers.
